Director of Operations (Construction)

Prairie Barns Construction LLC
$125,000.00 - $165,000.00 per year

We are looking for a Director of Operations to own the fulfillment side of our business.

You are the bridge between "Signed Contract" and "Happy Client." Your job is to ensure that Operations is not a bottleneck, but a competitive advantage. You will turn our construction processes into a predictable, scalable system.

If you love chaos, do not apply. If you love taking chaos and organizing it into a seamless workflow, this is your home.

About Prairie Barns Construction

We build for the relentless operators of the Northern Plains. Our clients value grit, reliability, and straight answers. Our brand promise is "We've Got You." That means we don't just stack lumber; we deliver certainty.

We are scaling and we need a Director of Operations who can build the machine that builds the barns.

Key Responsibilities

1. Execution & Scheduling (The "When")

  • Master Schedule: Own the company-wide production calendar. You ensure that sales promises align with operational reality.
  • Capacity Planning: Forecast labor and crew needs 3-6 months out. You tell us when to hire before we are drowning in work.

  • Cycle Time: relentless focus on reducing the days between "Permit Received" and "Final Walkthrough."

2. Systematization & Quality (The "How")

  • "The Prairie Barns Way": You will document and enforce our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You ensure that a barn built in June looks exactly like a barn built in October.

  • Quality Control: Oversee the implementation of QC checklists at key milestones (framing, pre-pour, finish). You are the guardian of our reputation.
  • Feedback Loops: Analyze post-project data to identify where we lost time or money, then fix the system so it doesn't happen again.

3. Financial Discipline (The "How Much")

  • Gross Profit Protection: You are accountable for the variance between the Sold Margin and the Actual Margin. If we bleed profit in the field, you stop the bleeding.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the purchasing strategy and fleet management to ensure we aren't wasting capital on idle assets.

4. Leadership (The "Who")

  • Mentorship: Lead, train, and hold accountable the Construction Managers and Project Coordinators.

  • Safety Culture: Empower the Safety Officer to maintain a zero-incident environment. Safety is not a suggestion; it is a condition of employment.

The Standards You Will Be Held To

  • Gross Profit Deviation: Your target is 0% slippage. If we sell it at 30%, we build it at 30%.
  • On-Time Completion: Projects finish on or before the date listed in the Master Schedule 90%+ of the time.
  • No Surprises: You deliver bad news early. You never hide a delay or a cost overrun from the President.
  • System First: When a mistake happens, you don't just yell at the person; you fix the process that allowed the mistake to happen.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years in construction management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing other managers. Post-frame experience is a strong plus.
  • System Mindset: You have experience implementing or managing software like JobTread, Procore, or BuilderTrend. You believe in data, not gut feelings.
  • Financial Literacy: You understand WIP (Work in Progress), Over/Under billings, and Job Costing. You can read a P&L and understand how field decisions impact the bottom line.
  • Leadership: You have a track record of hiring, training, and retaining high-performing crews/staff.

Why Join Us?

  • Autonomy: You will be given the keys to the Operations department. We want you to build the systems, not just run them.
  • Growth: You are joining the executive team of a rapidly scaling company.
  • Impact: You will see your work on the skyline of the Northern Plains.

To Apply: Submit your resume and a cover letter describing the biggest operational "bottleneck" you fixed in your last role and how you did it.
